Update 9th October 2017
Building work well underway. Main shell of extension is up, roof on and gym stripped back for refurbishment. Ladies changing room will be started on along with the new kitchen shortly.

Update - 15th August 2017
Building work has now started. A new side entrance has been installed.  Additional internal CCTV systems have been fitted to secure and detect any intruders which is linked to an early warning alarm system.

Update - 4th August 2017
Contractors P&J Ward are due to start work on Monday August 14th. The schedule of works will see the ground-works start for the two level extension to be built and the clearance of the gym and kitchen area.

For the first 7-8 weeks of the project, all 3 courts will remain open as the works will not affect the running of the club whilst the work is contained to the extension and gym.  The gym and kitchen area will be out of bounds from the start until the works have concluded.

During the works period access to the building will be via the side fire door which will be temporarily converted to a normal door with a combination lock.  This door code will be distributed by email prior to the start date.

From weeks 8 to 15 the club will need to be closed during the day Monday to Friday.  This is on safety grounds as the builders will be accessing all parts of the building. The club will be open for playing on at least 2 courts from 6pm onward and at weekends.  Wherever possible we intend to have all 3 courts operating.

All courts will be closed between the 11th to 13th September for cleaning, repairs and painting.

Parking will be restricted as we will be losing one complete side of the car park during the entire contract period. Members are asked to park away from the club and be mindful of not causing obstruction to Campbell Way residents.  If you are within walking or cycling distance of the club then please do so.  We are consulting with the village hall to use their car park at certain times although this has yet to be agreed.

Update - 20th June 2017
The tendering process is now complete and a contractor is being appointed for a start date of either the 7th or 14th of August TBC. The building contract period will be around 15 weeks however we hope that the works will be complete before the end of that period.

This start date will allow for some preparation work to be carried out in clearing specific areas of the club to assist the builders to start in earnest from day 1. This includes the bar store, the old gym changing and sauna rooms and any surplus gym equipment.

The contractor chosen was not only the most cost effective on their tender but also one that the architect has worked with for many years and and as such we are assured that a quality job will be delivered on time.

We have been assured that the impact on the day to day operation of the club will be kept to a minimum whilst the works are ongoing, however there will be some disruption and this cannot be helped. In particular the gym, kitchen and ladies changing room will be out of action for most of this period.  The car park will be closed during the day.

We would like the works to be completed by the 13th or 20th November ideally. Nearer the time we will make available a more detailed works plan which will show when specific elements of the works are likely to cause any problems. We will try to avoid court closures however it may be required that court 1 and that end of the building is closed off for a period of time.

In addition to these works we are also looking at making other improvements to the courts and internal fabric of the club and we will try to get this completed during the same period if at all possible.  If you have any questions or concerns please ask by email. fairoaksquash@gmail.com

Update - 25th April 2017
Planning for the improvement works are continuing. There has been some delay in bottoming out a couple of issues around mains drainage and the club heating system, which are now being resolved and will allow the work to imminently go out for tender to builders.  We are still working towards the work being completed in 2017. We are also now scoping out other improvement work which will sit outside of the main building contract and may well be progressed before the commencement of the main works starting.

There is a new community page on our website which will detail the progress of our community engagement plan which currently is in its initial setting up stage.

The club committee have for some time been working on plans to develop our club and following a successful bid to Eastleigh Borough Council for funding support under a local development grant, we are now in a position to move this project forward in 2017.

Plans were drawn up to develop the building to provide the following improvements;
  • Larger refurbished ladies changing rooms
  • New improved and larger fitness room
  • New extended club frontage including a new entrance and foyer behind court 1 incorporating a new bar store
  • New kitchen on the first floor above the new entrance
  • General improvements elsewhere throughout the club and to the look of the building
Our plans were approved by Eastleigh Council last week. Following a meeting with our architect this week, we are now progressing with a tendering process after which we are aiming that building works can commence in the Spring for completion before the start of the 2017/18 season in September.  The works will take around 15 weeks during which time we intend to keep the club open for rackets play as best we can and keep any disruption to a minimum. The gym will be closed for the duration of the works.

The plans are available to view by clicking the image opposite or downloading the pdf from the bottom of this page.  There may be some slight changes to some small internal detail from what can be seen, but essentially what is shown is how we will end up.

These improvements will represent an investment of over £100,000 into our club and will take Fair Oak Squash and Racketball into a new era of supporting the community with an excellent sports and leisure facility. £60,000 of this investment will come from the local housing developers grant with the remainder being contributed from club funds.

These improvements are long overdue and are required not only to modernise our club, but also to meet the needs of our growing local community where many would argue that there is a lack of accessible and affordable sports and gym facilities available.

Once completed these improvements will greatly enhance the facilities for our members and also allow us to promote our club to a wider section of the community.

Whilst firmly remaining a members club, we will also be working with EBC Sportsworks to open our club up to more community based activities during times when the club now is largely unused. FOS&RC have agreed a plan to progress this following building works being finished and during the 2017/18 season.

Our newly refurbished and enlarged fitness room will be a facility that is certainly needed in our area and will hopefully encourage new members into our club.

The expansion of housing in and around our Parish will also provide us an opportunity to increase and maintain membership levels to secure the future of our club.

Further updates will be posted to this page and circulated via email to our members.
