Plate 2011-12

The 2011/12 draw is shown below:

Friday 18th May 2012

The penultimate clash of the night saw Bob Broadbridge against Dilip Chakrabarti (Tenacious D) in the Plate final.
Bob, returning from missing most of the season, had improved as the tournament progressed…just what an opponent doesn’t wants to see! But Dilip too had showed good form…and a dogged determination that had seen him come back in many games to win. But the night was Bob’s. He struck the ball so cleanly, pushing Dilip all over the court. And despite great retrieving from Dilip and some lovely shots of his own, Bob went on to win 3-0 and to take the title.
Well done Bob and Dilip, and many thanks to Gary May for marking.

Wednesday 16th May 2012

Mark Brown and Robert Broadbridge played the first of the 2 Plate SF games. Bob was hitting the ball so cleanly, but Mark’s shot choice was superior and after the lead changed in every game he won 3-1 to book his place in the final. Regrettably he is unable to make the final so has withdrawn and Bob will play…they were so close we can still be assured of a great final. And well done Mark.
Dilip Chakrabarti and Pete Savage contested the 2nd of the Plate SFs. This was an absolute cracker. Pete may not thank me for pointing out that twice he had a huge lead in a game (8-0 in one) and both times Dilip came back to win. Disappointing as that was for Pete, it demonstrates how effectively he was playing at times in the match…but is also a perfect illustration of the sheer determination exhibited by Dilip (alongside the word tenacious in my dictionary I now have a picture of Dilip – sweating). It is sure to be a great final.

Thursday 10th May 2012

Earlier in the evening Jamie Hewitt played Gary May in their rescheduled 1st round Plate match. Gary won (another 3-1) to progress to a QF tie with Dilip Chakrabarti on Monday.

Wednesday 9th May 2012

The last match of the evening saw Pete Savage play Marcus Hewitt in their rescheduled 1st round Plate game. Both played well, Pete coming out ahead.
Tuesday 8th May 2012.
Gordon Scott beat Rob Holmes in the 1st Plate match to book his spot in the Plate QF. He was joined later by Mike Willis who pulled up a super come-back against Dave Marchant from 2-0 down and then 8-6 down in the 4th to narrowly win 3-2. Pete savage was then due to play his second match against Marcus Hewitt, but Marcus didn’t make it so the game will be rearranged.
