Wooden Racquets 2010-11

A great night was had at the club on on Friday 30th September 2011. The format was simple – a knockout tournament with a plate for the first round losers. All games to be short (first to 15, American scoring) to allow as many to be played as possible before the music (80’s of course) started at 9:00pm and an American Supper buffet.

15 members came on the night, many not even born in the 80s – and some not having played squash since the 80s! – with many more coming to watch/listen/eat. Wooden racquets were dug out from sheds, the back of cupboards, garages…and even eBay!

The final was contested by David Brierley and Russell Baker, with the honours going to Dave. The Plate final was contested by Paul Finch and Nigel Lush, with Paul winning in a nail-biting 16-14 finish.

A spot prize was awarded to Tony Hibbs as the most appropriately (some said inappropriately) dressed competitor.
